Mark A. Rice, M. Photog., CPP Bio:
Mark A. Rice is in the photography business to make money…pure and simple. He is a Master Photographer, Certified Professional Photographer and is currently pursuing his Craftsmen degree. It is true that he is an award winning photographer with over 30 years professional photographic experience including multiple Fuji Awards and Top Ten Awards, Indiana Photographer of the Year and Indiana Mid America Regional Conference Photographer of the Year. He has worked in a variety of areas of photography including portrait, sports, event, amusement and real estate. Corporate clients include The GAP, Old Navy, NorthFace and Impact Productions.
What sets Mark apart from many other professional photographers is his passion for the business of photography. He also loves the art of photography, however he recognizes that his images are strictly the retail product that he creates to make a living. He believes that philosophy is truly at the root of the success of his photography career.
His first photography studio was in an amusement park capturing old time sepia tone portraits with an 8×10 view camera. He grew this business to 9 locations throughout the Midwest.
The fast paced amusement photography and the daily management of his studios left him little time behind the camera – the aspect of the business he loves the most. After 15 years in the amusement parks, Mark started to explore his options. He and his wife Shelly teamed up to open a portrait studio specializing in high school senior portraits.
Now with Mark back behind the camera and Shelly managing the sales/operation of the studio, they grew the business quickly. They were able to photograph over 250 high school seniors in their first year. Over the next decade, in addition to capturing hundreds of high school seniors each year, they continued to expand their studio portrait business to include school days, sports leagues, proms, events and photo booths.
In 2011, with the desire to have the freedom to travel, they transitioned the studio business to focus on the niche market of high end HDR real estate photography. The purchase of their first drone provided the added revenue of aerial photography and video. Utilizing his photography knowledge and expertise, he explored new technologies to redefine his HDR capture and workflow. The result are the beautiful HDR images and the following of his current real estate clients.
Mark continues to study and adapt to the constant evolving opportunities within the photography industry participating as an active member of PPA, IPPG and Daguerre Photo Club of Indiana – where he served as president for 2 years.
